Returning to Off-Site Gatherings – And It Was Amazing!

What a fantastic way to kick off our first off-site meeting in years! This week we gathered at the museum for a special program and got a first-hand look at The Art of Photojournalism exhibition featuring the work of national award-winning photojournalist Richard (Rick) E. Kozak. Fresh off being named Best of Show in the museum’s 12th Annual Art Show in 2024 for his striking photo “Power of the Spirit”

For more than 30 years, Rick Kozak has traveled the world with his camera, documenting history as it unfolded. He’s photographed politics, sports, national events, and wars in Africa, Central America, Afghanistan, and Iraq—where he was even wounded in 2005 while embedded with the Marines and Special Forces during Operation Steel Curtain near the Syrian border in Iraq.  His remarkable work has appeared in some of the nation’s most respected publications.

Kozak spent nearly an hour sharing stories from his career, and we were all captivated from start to finish. He gave us not just a glimpse into the life of a photojournalist but also a deeper appreciation of the risks, courage, and commitment behind the camera. His photos paired with his personal stories brought history alive right in front of us.

The energy in the room was incredible, and it was clear this program struck a chord with our members. It was more than a meeting—it was an experience that reminded us of the power of storytelling, perspective, and connection.

A heartfelt thank you to Louis Huning Jr. for making this meeting possible, and to our newly formed Programs Committee—you’re off to an amazing start!

A Message from Our President
Leyda Hahn
member photo
Greetings, fellow Rotarians!

As we move into another exciting season of Rotary activities, I want to take a moment to highlight a couple of incredible opportunities for connection, learning, and inspiration.

First, I encourage everyone to visit the Los Lunas Museum to experience the remarkable The Art of Photojournalism exhibit by award-winning photojournalist Richard (Rick) E. Kozak. We are truly fortunate to have such an outstanding display right here in our village! Treat yourself to a visit, and if you can, plan to attend the upcoming reception on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 2-4 pm—there’s nothing quite like seeing the work up close and meeting the artist himself.

I also want to take a moment to recognize our participation in RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards). This program continues to be a cornerstone of our mission, helping young leaders develop skills, confidence, and a passion for service. Our involvement in RYLA reminds us of the impact Rotary has on future generations and the lasting difference we make by supporting these incredible young people.
